Close doors restaurants are a new phenomenon around Buenos Aires and I find it very interesting. This new way of doing business, created basically after the economic crisis, almost always implies that the restaurant is located in the owner´s home; it is opened 2 or 3 days a week; it is available to the public by reservation only; it is promoted mouth to mouth; it is a set menu that changes every so often; the customers are accommodated in communal tables.

In Buenos Aires, close door restaurants are mostly owned by foreigners, and they provide exotic foods (exotic for Argentines), that are rare to find in Argentina. Sometimes they also paired their food with specific wines, like a great wine tasting near Buenos Aires with dinner included.

From the customer´s point of view, there are many pros to this new phenomenon: the service is very personal, customers are not somebody that just walked into the door and sat at a table, but people with names that made a reservation, and the host will be waiting for them to arrive. It is a social event too, like our wonderful wine tastings, where people get to know each other and share the table, and make new friends. Another pro is that the food is not regular, not easy to find around Buenos Aires. What would be the point of opening a close door parrilla in Buenos Aires? Haha.

From the owner´s point of view, there are many pros as well. Some of them are related with inventory, since they only buy food for the set amount of people that reserved; personnel; no rent; no licenses. But of course they are also exposed to some risks as robbery, not separation between private and public spaces, legal problems, and not being able to expand that much are some of them.

Close doors restaurants are definitely something that you must do in Buenos Aires.

Cost Saving Benefits of Wine Clubs

Wine clubs provide an array of opportunities for socializing as well as saving money. • By joining a wine club, you can sample wine at events. What you like, you can choose to buy on your own. What you do not like has cost you nothing at all. • Wine clubs provide the opportunity to share wine at a gathering. A bottle you could not finish yourself is now enjoyed by many. • Wine clubs can reduce entertaining expenses. As each club member takes turns entertaining others at their home, each member saves time and effort by only having to hold one event every few weeks or months. • Savings are further enhanced by members bringing a bottle to share, reducing the cost of alcohol for the host. • Wines enjoyed by the entire club can be purchased wholesale by the case. It can then be distributed among club members. This can save anywhere from five to forty percent per bottle.
